  • Condition: This scroll old, and it is very large, measuring 76 1/2 inches by 33 3/4 inches in width. The actual painting is painted on a canvas backed by heavy paper. The actual painting measures: 59 1/2 inches in height, by 29 1/4 inches in width. The top boarder is 11 inches, the bottom 6 1/2 inches, and the left and right sides 2 3/8 inches. There is a water stain on the back paper (not appearing at all on the front), at the very top left side (see photos). There is bleed through from the original painting that appears on the back of the scroll. This is not damage, but the natural migration of paint pigment over many decades and seasons of humidity followed by dry cycles. The fabric needs to be re-glued (in a couple places at the top and bottom) to the top and bottom scroll holders (wood pieces). See all photos, but especially the 11th and 12th photo.

    Description

    This is an original hand painted scroll from China.  This was owned by a nurse practitioner who traveled extensively throughout Asia. I have several pieces of his Asian art that is listed currently on Ebay.
    This is a very large scroll artwork that features hand painted Chinese Royalty. It is a magnificent piece of original art.  The artistry is excellent and was painted by a very gifted but unknown artist.  It is only my estimate, but I believe this piece dates to the 1940's or early 1950's.
    The painting appears to have checking or wear marks between the painted characters.  It is not wear marks, but the artist burnished the paint (most likely with a pallet knife) to enhance depth and interest to this scroll painting. The burnishing is very even and obviously intended by the artist.
